Reports are suggesting the Winter of 2013/14 could be the worst since records began. Before the bad weather hits now is a good time to ensure your home is as best set up to help deal with winter plumbing problems as possible. Prevention is better than cure and damage limitation is essential when problems strike. There are a number of products on the market that your local Dyno Plumbing team can install to help you prevent an emergency and reduce the potential damage when trouble strikes.

– Pipe Lagging – are all your pipes that are susceptible to freezing efficiently lagged? If not then not only are they open to attack from the cold weather and leaks, but they may not be covered under your Insurance policy. All external pipes, underground pipes and ideally those in ‘less heated’ zones (such as lofts, near or within external walls) should be lagged properly to help prevent them freezing.

Iso-Valves – when your pipes are frozen they are exceptionally open to damage, thus causing a major leak. Help prevent further damage in such situations by being able to isolate particular household units or pipework. Iso-Valves isolate plumbing pipes and are inexpensive to install, and normally fitted very quickly and with little fuss.

Sure Stops – Do you know where your Stopcock is? The Sure Stop is a device that makes turning off your water supply much easier. Plus it can be installed in a variety of locations on your pipework, giving you a choice on where it is and making it much more accessible than the everyday stopcock. So when you have a leak you can turn off your water at the flick of a switch.

Tank & Cylinder Jackets – help keep your Tanks and Cylinders protected by wrapping them with a jacket. Designed to help prevent freezing they can prevent you going through the whole problem of having a major tank or cylinder, and necessary pipework, replaced. Such work is costly both in time and money.

Most importantly though we must thank and commend our Engineers and our Health and Safety Manager, Ross Peters, for all their efforts in keeping themselves and their colleagues safe. The job of an emergency plumber certainly has its risks. There is potential of an accident on every job, either to our Engineer or customer. It takes a dedicated, committed and safety conscious team to have no lost time injuries over a 12 month period. With safety being the heart of everything we do this award means a great deal to us. However we cannot be complacent as one accident is too many. Hence we continuously train our team on H&S matters and invest in Personal Protection Equipment constantly.

The entire Dyno network (Rods, Plumbing and Locks) came together to discuss best practice, the future and how we as a business can be even better to ensure we maintain our brand and high standards.

Dyno Director David Alexander, along with Operations Director Jon Harris, lead the conference and topics from marketing, operations and business development were high on the agenda. We were joined by Matthew Bateman, MD of British Gas Home Services, who went into detail on how Dyno and British Gas Home Services Division plan to keep meeting our customers’ needs and how we as a business can achieve our goals and grow sustainably.

Our Guest speaker was Sean Connelly, a founder and Director at London based Consultancy firm Egremont. Sean gave a fascinating and insightful talk on the future and how his clients, companies such as Boots, ICI and Syngenta, are preparing for the future and how Dyno can do the same. From technological advances to population trends – we learnt that the world will certainly change significantly in the next 50 years!

A great deal of marketing activity is planned to celebrate Dyno’s golden birthday so make sure you keep your eyes peeled and ears open!

We’d like to thank all our Engineers and office team members for being so dedicated during the days of difficulty. We’d also like to thank our customers for being so understanding if our team were slightly delayed due to the appalling driving conditions. We know our Engineers were especially grateful for the cups of tea upon arrival….especially when they had had to walk half a mile due to roads being shut and snow preventing the vans from being able to reach our customers’ homes.
